Edoardo Torbianelli was born in Trieste (Italy) in 1970. He recieves a diploma in piano and harpsichord in his hometown and then continues his studies at the Scuola di Alto Perfezionamento Musicale dei Filarmonici in Torino (I), at the Koninklijk Vlaams Muziekconservatotium in Antwerp (B), and at the Barabants Conservatorium of Tillburg (NL). Amongst his tutors figure, Jean Fassina (Paris), Jos van Immerseel and Jacques de Tiège (Antwerp).

His interest in historical perfomance practice (in particular of the romantic and classic periods) puts him in contact with historic pianos and didactical and esthetical sources of the eighteenth century and nineteenth century, and even with recordings dating from the beginning of the twenthieth century that register performances of the last generation of musicians born in the mid 1800’s.

Succesful as performer, present in numerous and prestigious festivals in Europe, Edoardo Torbianelli has various recordings with the labels Harmonia Mundi, Pan Classics, Phaedra, Gramola, Amadeus, and two of them have been awarded a “Diapason d’Or”. The Gramola production "Liszt and the violin" with austrian violinist Thomas Albertus Irnberger recieves a diplom of honour of the Hungarian Listz Society in the context of the Gran Prix du Disque 2012.

He worked as a teacher at the Koninklijk Vlaams Conservatorium Antwerpen between 1993 and 1998 and since that same year he has taught historical piano, chamber music and performance practice of the romantic and classical periods at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis of Basle (CH).

Since 2008 he has taught the same subjects at the Hoschule der Kunste of Berne (CH), where he also coordinates a research project on the techniques, esthetics and didactics of the piano between 1800 and 1850. He is regularly invited as guest-teacher by many european institutes, as well as at the University of Bogotà (Colombia). From September, he is in charge of fortepiano practice within the new Master's program at the Sorbonne University in Paris.
